Working At Home…A Dream Come True

I was just reading something a friend of mine wrote, The Work At Home Dream… Is It Worth The Risk? I couldn’t help but comment on it and then thought of sharing about it here.

Three years ago I started my own website with the idea I could quit my job and work from home while raising my new baby girl. While I didn’t see much in the beginning except a few cents a day, that site was a springboard to our online success.

At the same time, we were planning a big move back east and found I was going to have to quit my job anyway. The question was would I have to find another job at our new residence or could I stay home with our kids. My husband was dabbling in eBay sales (selling mostly car parts) at the time in addition to his handyman/contracting business. This move meant starting over for him as well. We were given the opportunity to try and sell some old wallpaper stock that was sitting on a shelf in a store in NJ for years that was getting ready to relocate.

We rose to the challenge and made $1,000 (net income) in one month. We knew then, that if we could do that, we could make a living online. We moved at the end of the summer (2004) and with many challenges ahead, I have enjoyed working from home ever since.

Lynn wrote about some of the perks she enjoyed while working from home, and it made me think of the many things we take for granted as work-at-home parents. For example, we take our kids to the park several days a week to play and don’t think twice about it. I take long naps in the afternoon with my kids (resting up for the birth of this next baby) every day. Yesterday I spent a huge portion of the day in town with my aunt… a simple doctor’s appointment turned into a nice long lunch at Ruby Tuesday’s and some shopping all around town. These are things I literally dreamed of doing when I was working my “9 to 5″ job.

How did I get my start online? Well, Lynn was the catalyst actually. I had the desire and she helped me get on track. I was listening to a radio broadcast, “The Mom Show” and she was being interviewed…a single mom, working successfully from home. I checked out her website SelfStartersWeeklyTips.com and the rest is history.

If you’ve ever thought about starting your own business online or figuring out a way to work from home, I encourage you to check out her site. And if you’re really serious, consider becoming an elite member on her forum (I’ll see you there). The main website contains TONS of FREE information and you can do quite well with that. Becoming an elite member (a paid subscription…very inexpensive, I might add) provides even more information that is not usually given away for free AND more custom attention…plus its a safe place to get more one-on-one mentoring.

The only thing I would trade working at home for is not having to work at all. But truth be told, I think I would still “work” doing what I love even if I didn’t have to…because there’s just something about pursuing your passions…it’s not really work at all. ;)

If you’ve ever dreamed of working at home and getting the perks it provides but don’t know where or how to start, visit SelfStartersWeeklyTips.com to Learn Internet Marketing Strategies for Free. It’s worth checking out.
