Uphold the National Right to Life

BabyA few weeks ago I wrote an article on the issue of Abortion vs. Sanctity of Life and I laid out where each candidate (both Republican and Democratic) stood on it.

Personally, I feel so strongly about this issue that this is a “make or break deal” for me in determining who is the best candidate to receive my vote. I oppose all who claim to be “pro-choice”, which is a euphemism for “pro-baby-killing”. If you don’t believe me, visit http://www.prochoice.org and see for yourself (the site is named “National Abortion Federation”). Anyway…

That means Rudy, Hillary, Mr. Edwards & Barack won’t be getting my vote in 2008.

Now that leaves me with five Republican candidates to choose from. But I have to be honest…Mitt Romney concerns me about this issue. He was pro-choice just a few years ago, but now claims to be pro-life. While I’m glad he’s seen the light, so to speak, it still makes me a little uneasy because I don’t know how strong his convictions are regarding the lives of all these babies, these Americans in the making.

Well, I just came across an interview with Mike Huckabee at Catholic Online on the subject of Abortion and his position as stated at www.MikeHuckabee.com was noted:

“I support and have always supported passage of a constitutional amendment to protect the right to life. As President, I will fight for passage of this amendment. My convictions regarding the sanctity of life have always been clear and consistent, without equivocation or wavering.”

But then he was asked point blank, “Does your position in opposition to abortion admit of any exceptions?”

I thought this was a great question because the answer further defines his position…how pro pro-life is he? Here is what he had to say…

“First, let me say I have appreciated that Catholics led in the pro-life issue and were firm on this even before the Baptists.

Before the Baptists really started taking a strong position on the sanctity of life, I was a part of an organization called “Southern Baptists for Life” which was launched to move our denomination to a more consistent pro-life position.

In regard to exceptions, experience has shown that health of the mother exceptions are so broad that they result in ‘carte blanche’ abortion on demand.

Consequently, I do not support an exception in those terms.

Abortion proponents point to exceptions and worst-case scenarios as a way to defend abortion on demand. “

The strongest opposition to abortion among the candidates I can find is with Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul. Fred & Mr. McClain both neglect using the term “pro-life” on their campaign websites and speak in vague terminology which tells me they don’t feel as strongly about it as Mike & Ron do. I may be wrong.But then Mike goes a step further with the issue by stating, “I support and have always supported passage of a constitutional amendment to protect the right to life.” Now that sounds to me like a guy who means business.

After all our Declaration of Independence already states,

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.” (read more…)

These unborn children are endowed by their Creator with the unalienable Right to Life, and for too long they have been denied that right, and this atrocity must end. Not only does the Roe v Wade decision need to be overturned but SOMEbody must also make an amendment to our Constitution to protect these babies because obviously it is currently being overlooked by the powers that be, namely the Supreme Court.

This is not a decision to be left up to the states as every other Pro-Life candidate proposes, but rather this National Right to Life must be upheld in an even higher court than the highest in the land.

That’s one BIG reason why I support Mike Huckabee for President.
