Christians Support Mike Huckabee!
I was just speaking with my husband about why I feel so passionate about supporting Mike Huckabee for president. We’ve been quarreling over how much time & energy I’ve spent “campaigning†for this man…he is not our savior, my husband says. Of course, I recognize he is not our Savior, Jesus Christ is. But there’s something within me that compels me to continue advancing his message of “Faith, Family, & Freedomâ€.
My husband doesn’t want me to be crushed if Governor Huckabee loses because I seem to be overly passionate about this election. I need to realize that he is up against the mainstream media as well as individuals who are not interested in learning more about the candidates running, he says. Well, of course I realize that…most people don’t have the time to do all the research themselves; they rely on the media to inform them and the media is not doing their job. But there’s something within me that says, don’t quit…this is a cause worth fighting for.
We’ve talked about how we need to take care of our own family: physically, financially and spiritually. We cannot rely on the government to take care of us, he says. Of course I know that too. But I am thinking about my family…I’m thinking about our social environment, the education I want my children to have, and our religious freedom. I can’t just sit by when I know there’s a man who can literally change the course of history slip through the cracks.
You see, when I see and think about Mike Huckabee, I consider him first and foremost a brother in Christ. He’s not just a “politician†in the worldly sense, but rather a man after God’s own heart that is seeking to serve his country, and my heart goes out to him.
When our Sunday School teacher asked for prayer requests two weeks ago, I wanted to lift this man up in prayer. He is a prominent man of faith coming under heavy attack, and we need to pray for him, but I felt the need to be politically correct…in church! So instead I asked to pray for all the presidential candidates and the whole political climate.
Then, while sitting in the regular service my heart started breaking for him. I found myself in tears, praying for Mike, the man of God. I don’t just see him as a public figure or merely a fellow Christian, but rather as a Christian leader…a pastor. I see my pastor. I see all that Mike is going through and I think of Pastor “A”…I picture his wife, and their children and how all of this would affect them, and my heart aches for Janet Huckabee and their children.
Mike Huckabee was a governor for over ten years and now he’s running for the highest office in the land. When I see him come under attack by the media and his presidential opponents, ridiculed for his faith, lied about and dismissed, I feel righteous indignation. He is a GOOD man, running an honest campaign, and exhorting his fellow candidates. He turns the other cheek time and time again. He handles it ten times better than I know I could. How dare the media overlook him because he says he believes in God? How dare he be ridiculed by Conservatives because he says we should take care of the poor and be good stewards of the environment? But I realize of course, that should be expected…the world persecuting a Christian. But what about the Church?
I am appalled at the lackadaisical attitude demonstrated by some Christians when it comes to not openly declaring support for Governor Huckabee. How dare we turn our back on him or slither in secrecy in our support despite his very public stand for Godly values and passionate desire to serve all Americans? He not only believes that every unborn child has the right to live, but he intends to amend the Constitution to protect that life. He also intends to amend the Constitution to defend and declare the traditional view of marriage as being between one man and one woman. Hello? Do we not see the horrible sins of baby-killing and homosexual behavior are plaguing this country? Do we not believe that we should protect these children and the institution of marriage?
What is more important than that? The moral fiber of our country is fraying dramatically!
We as the church should be PUBLICLY supporting this man, not just idly standing by in our pews mumbling prayers under our breaths and keeping our fingers crossed. We should be holding him up in prayer most definitely, but we should also be taking a vocal stand for this Christian candidate.
Just like we minister to those around us by our Christian living in our work-a-day worlds, this race for the presidency is Governor Huckabee’s ministry. He is reaching millions of people in this country with the testimony of his public life. While he is not preaching Christ to America, he is living a Christ-like life. People are watching him and his moral example is shining brightly. While he is not preaching for a living, don’t you think his personal witness is touching the lives around him? We NEED to support his “ministry†in a big way.
The “evangelicals†have been under attack for quite some time now for our moral convictions. Are we going to allow the world to squelch us when this true man of God is so willing to lay down his life for us in service? He has put his neck on the line…for us. He is unashamedly serving God in his own life and actively seeking to serve us as the next president.
We, the church need to rise up and support this man. He has done nothing to cause us shame or reason to reject his candidacy, so why do we shy away from declaring our support for him?
Do we not want a man of God residing in the White House? Do we honestly believe Hilary Clinton or Barack Obama is to be that man? Well one of those two WILL be the Democratic nominee.
Do we believe Mitt Romney, a self-proclaimed Mormon to be that man? When he governed Massachusetts, he embraced the promotion of homosexuality, and not that long ago he was openly pro-choice.
How about Rudy Guiliani? Rudy does not embrace Godly morals when it comes to issues of abortion and homosexuality or even fidelity in his own personal life.
John McCain supports embryonic stem cell research and both he and Ron Paul (along with Mitt Romney) believe the right-to-choose choice should be made at the state level. If abortion is murder, and murder is wrong, why should it be left up to the states to decide? It should be outlawed from the whole land.
PLEASE stand up for Mike Huckabee and support him in his candidacy for president. Declare your support. Advance his message. Pray for him. Contribute where you can. Let’s show the “world†that we as a Christian community support our brother in Christ in his race to the White House. Let’s bring a man after God’s own heart to the White House.
