The following is a guest post from a fellow Huckabee supporter who lives in my county…

Here is my “two cents” to why I switched from McCain this year: Huckabee goes beyond the ordinary. I respect Senator McCain and even supported him last election, but I am inspired by Huckabee.

Mike Huckabee effectively leads with principles, lives his life with faithful citizenship, and proposes bold and clear visions for our future which will promote growth and prosperity for all Americans and will safeguard our nation. If the media and others in this nation would just sit and really listen to him and truly look at him with open, unbiased eyes, they would see true inspiration! He could actually expand the Republican party, instead of divide or contract it as I fear our future lies with others in the lead. Take this as “food for thought” from a person who began as a Reagan Democrat.

I have been really disappointed in this race and the biases in media and the country. Many would not give him a second look because he is a devout Christian and pastor! How terrible it is if someone actually follows their faith when they live their life, huh? He has been pigeon holed by many as the Evangelical candidate or “born again” candidate which then provokes fear in others that it will somehow bring us back to state religions across the country or federal religion proposals or church in the schools! How ludicrious! How small we have become as a nation if one cannot practice his faith and talk out loud about it! This stems from Christian bigotry and bias. I am a socially conservative Catholic but no one could put “my vote” in a box of the “evangelicals” because a person is not easily defined in that way, no matter who you are!

PRINCIPLED LEADERSHIP AND FAITHFUL CITIZENSHIP

I say, instead, that he leads with principles and lives with faithful citizenship. For example, he promotes ways to protect and help our environment because God mandates that we be good stewards of the Earth. Further, in his “right to life”
agenda, he consistently espouses principles to promote and protect the dignity of human life not just while in the womb but until natural death. He respects and talks to many Americans, regardless if you are in a corporate boardroom, in a
machine shop, at a local grocery store, on an oil field or just at home with your kids in a rural community (like me). He has been an effective and great governor for more than 10 years. His faith and role as a pastor has made him more
compassionate towards all Americans, not less. He even says on his website that he thinks more highly of a honest atheist than a disingenuous believer. In following these principles, he has actually gotten things accomplished despite Democrats hold in the state.

AN EXTRAORDINARY STATESMAN AND BOLD VISIONARY FOR OUR FUTURE!

Mike Huckabee proposes very specific and bold ideas that can really inspire a nation to succeed and lead the world in the 21st century.

He wants to seek ways to grow jobs here at home and rebuild infrastructure in the country with American steel and American labor instead of just throwing money bribes to the public for their votes. Sure I will be happy to take the money
rebate that the government will give me as we are a one income home with 3 children at home but I don’t think it is what is best for our economy and my children’s future. We will take the money and save it for their future, not spend it on items that will probably build China’s economy or others outside this country. He also boldly proposes elimination of IRS and institution of the FairTax (consumption tax). We need to have new ways of doing things because the economy is breaking based on old ideas. It is a creative approach to be fair to all..although it will probably put out work the whole complicated tax scheme business, like tax preparers and accountants who feed on this continued problem with our income tax system.

Mike Huckabee proposes a Veteran’s Bill of Rights which will aid those who have put their lives on the line for our nation without a second thought. He will bring respect and aid back to our Armed Forces (and their families) that has been
lost over the years. As a former Air Force officer in the JAG corps, I long for the day when there is not so much quibbling over “who said what and when” about Iraq and someone actually leads us successfully through these problems in Iraq,
Afghanistan and other troubled areas while actually strengthening our reputation abroad and pulling us out of useless quagmires. As I believe Mike Huckabee is a very, principled man who leads with integrity and honorable character, he is the best to do the job. I grew up with a brother who fought as a Marine in Vietnam only to come home to disrespect and a country’s disgrace over our troops presence there. We can do much better for our troops!

Mike Huckabee has a vision for education which will inspire states to move our children beyond good test scores to be educated citizens who lead the nation and gain the respect in the world. At his website, he says:

“Music and the arts are not extraneous, extra-curricular, or expendable - I believe they are essential. I want to provide every child these “Weapons of Mass Instruction.” Our future economy depends on a creative generation. We need to judge the success of our schools by the results we obtain, not the revenue we spend.”

And stated:

“As I traveled the country and the world over the last decade bringing jobs to Arkansas, the business leaders I met weren’t worried about creating jobs, they were worried about finding skilled and professional workers to fill those jobs”

Although I am a homeschooling mom, I still have an interest in the educational system because these children are my neighbors and our future leaders. I do not need a candidate with specific homeschool agenda with federal income breaks for
our families or other items. We just want the federal government to leave us alone to raise and teach our kids. We must continue to have the choice to do what is best for our children given to us by God to raise. For me, my homeschooling
advocacy should only be at the state and local level.

His ideas on health care focus on instilling prevention rather than bandaiding chronic illnesses. Health care has become a national issue as our families reach record levels in obesity and chronic illnesses and our costs soar but coverage shrinks. As a man who has battled obesity and overcome it, he understands. His work in Arkansas show this as well.

His comprehensive plan for energy independence speaks volumes about his commitment to our country’s future needs as well as being a good steward of the God’s earth. It encourages conservation It fosters creative innovations in technology and resources that the U.S. used to be known for.

Time is ticking away as we approach Super Tuesday tomorrow. I just hope the American people can vote this time for the candidate with ideals and a vision to reach them. Let’s make history by overcoming the political pundits who say that
we cannot do this. Otherwise, I fear the Republicans will “be history” this November.

My prayers will be with Mike Huckabee tomorrow and in the coming weeks. Thanks for reading the unedited, ravings of this strong supporter, but novice political advocate. I have not been this involved before but his inspiration raised my
hopes for a brighter future for our nation and our children.
